Students present visions for Providence
(Herald Journal) Providence officials say they’re excited by design ideas Utah State University landscape architecture and environmental planning students presented Thursday after completing an intensive study of the community last month.
Councilmember Dave Low said he could see the city implementing some of the concepts, which included developing a mixed-use zone and boosting walkability.
“I think a lot of good will come out of it,” he explained. “I left impressed and thinking there were a lot of hours spent on making Providence a better place.”
Wendy Wimmer, chairwoman of the planning commission, echoed that sentiment, saying she particularly enjoyed the students’ thoughts on calming traffic and creating a more recognizable gateway into the community by installing a larger “Welcome to Providence” sign or an arch.
Another concept that resonated with her involved putting a skating rink into the community’s mixed-use area, which is next to Macey’s.
