Substance abuse facility put on hold in Pleasant Grove

PLEASANT GROVE (Daily Herald) -- After three hours of discussion, the Pleasant Grove Planning Commission postponed the decision on a site plan for a new substance abuse rehabilitation facility, Willow Tree Recovery, until Thursday.

"In Utah County, there is an abundance of substance abuse. However, there is not an abundance of treatment centers," the facility's administrative director, Jacob Forsyth, said.

While all at the meeting agreed that treatment centers were needed, Willow Tree Recovery's proposed location was a controversial topic for its neighbors.

The commissioners chose to meet at Pleasant Grove Junior High School because they anticipated a large turnout but less than 40 people were present at the March 11 meeting. There was resident representation, however. Craig Yuzon presented a petition to the commissioners signed by 348 residents who were concerned about the site of the rehabilitation center. Willow Tree Recovery, formerly called Phoenix House, is proposed for 145 S. Proctor Lane (1300 West).
