Taylorsville selling property to Brighton Healthcare for assisted living center

(Taylorsville/Kearns Journal) The landscape of the vast empty lot outside Taylorsville City Hall could be changing in the near future. City officials are in the final stages of selling the property to an assisted living center.

“We have a contract on the eastern part of the land. It is now in the final stages, leases are being drafted between attorneys and financing is being arranged,” said Mayor Russ Wall at the July 29 Taylorsville Town Meeting. “It will be an assisted living with some retail components.”

Brighton Health Care, a subsidiary of Avalon Health Care, Inc., is preparing to start construction on a 75-unit luxury assisted living facility

“Avalon has made a proposal to the city to purchase five acres of the city property, the portion east of the entry road to city hall,” said Economic Development Director Keith Snarr. “They are working with architects to put plans together and submit them to the planning commission by Aug. 25 so it can be on the agenda in September.”

The two stage plan includes a luxury assisted living care center utilizing two acres. Phase two will include independent senior apartment housing and possibly some retail stores on the remaining three acres of the project proposal.

“We are working with some other parties on the other part of the property to the west of city hall, but we don’t have anyone tied down on that part yet,” said Snarr. “The city is reserving another two acres for a city hall multi-purpose arts center site directly east of city hall.”

The city initially had a small area master plan calling for boutique retail stores to cover the entire 10 acres lot in front of city hall, but the applicant will be applying to amend the plan for their site plan needs.
