Tooele home sales down again in 2009

(Tooele Transcript Bulletin) Fewer homes sold in Tooele County in 2009 compared to 2008, continuing a three-year slump in the local real estate market. However, recent data suggests a rebound is underway.

Last year, 640 homes were sold in the county — down 2 percent from 653 home sales in 2008, according to multiple listing service data from the Tooele County Board of Realtors.

But that bearish trend is bellied by a strong fourth quarter in 2009, with both total homes sold and average sales price posting an increase over the same quarter the previous year. Fourth quarter 2009 sales results show 187 homes sold — up from 116 homes sold in the same quarter of 2008. That’s a 61 percent increase, and an 8 percent increase over the third quarter of 2009.
