Utah County seeks recovery projects

PROVO (Deseret News) — Utah County has been allotted $29.3 million in recovery zone bonds from a federal stimulus package this year, and county commissioners are calling for cities in the county with plans for construction or redevelopment projects to apply for the funds.

The three commissioners voted Tuesday to put a deadline of 60 days for those wishing to submit an application for the money.

Utah County Clerk/Auditor Bryan Thompson said the projects have to meet federal guidelines of stimulating growth, such as urban renewal or transportation projects.

Commissioner Larry Ellertson said officials from several Utah County cities have inquired about the money, including Provo and Eagle Mountain. The county must bond for the money by the end of the year, Ellertson said.

Some of the money may also be used on county projects, Thompson said.
