Utah Home Sellers to Welcome Thousands of Buyers for Day of Open Houses

The Utah Statewide Open House is the first time Realtors in Utah will host a coordinated day of open houses to offer buyers the convenience of touring dozens of homes for sale in a single weekend.

SANDY, Utah (Utah Association of Realtors) — To help last-minute home shoppers take advantage of the soon-to-expire federal home buyer tax credit, Realtors in Utah and across the country are hosting thousands of open houses on April 10.

The Utah Statewide Open House is the first time Realtors in Utah will host a coordinated day of open houses to offer buyers the convenience of touring dozens of homes for sale in a single weekend.

“It’s a home shopper’s dream,” said Lerron Little, 2010 president of the Utah Association of Realtors. “Hundreds of Realtors will hold open houses so buyers have a chance to shop quickly if they are interested in qualifying for the tax credit. No matter where you are in Utah, you can find open houses and see as many homes as you want.”

Realtors in 28 other states will also be participating in the effort to help home buyers get their purchase agreements inked before the tax credit deadline. Homes need to be under contract by April 30 and closed by June 30 in order for buyers to claim up to $8,000 in tax credits.

In addition to helping buyers beat the tax credit deadline, the Utah Statewide Open House also offers consumers an opportunity to see available housing inventory in a no-pressure atmosphere.

“Even if people are unsure about whether they’re ready to buy, they can come out and conveniently see what they can get for their money in today’s market,” Little said. “With low home prices and mortgage rates, buyers are getting more for their home-buying dollars than they have in years.”

Blue balloons, featuring the Realtor “R” in white, will indicate which homes are participating in the Utah Statewide Open House campaign. Balloons will be on display simultaneously at open houses from Logan to St. George.
