West Jordan economic development outlook good despite struggling economy
(West Jordan Journal) Representatives from the Economic Development Corporation Utah spoke to the city council on March 24 about the status of West Jordan's economic development.
Currently, the EDCU is working on about 150 active statewide leads, with about 60 percent being manufacturing or distribution-related.
"In my opinion, your city is very well positioned in that regard," EDCU representative Jeff Edwards said. "You have strong existing manufacturing companies, and you've got a workforce that's well skilled in that, and neighboring cities can provide workers in that area as well. Those would be an excellent fit."
The Oracle Data Center, which has now restarted previously halted construction, will represent a very large capitol investment for the city, along with a large source of franchise and property taxes and high paying jobs, said Edwards.
The EDCU often codenames projects because their clients' names are confidential. Among some of those coded projects are the following:
Project Roosevelt is another large data center project that the EDCU believes is an excellent fit for the West Jordan community.
Project Surf is a pharmaceutical manufacturing project that has a large research and development component. It would provide manufacturing jobs as well as research and development jobs.
