West Valley City receives Governor's Quality Growth Award
It is staggering to imagine that two-thirds of the buildings and homes to be constructed in the valley by 2040 are still yet to be built, according to Envision Utah. Quality projects are what Envision Utah strives for and is reflected its Wasatch Choices 2040 principles which cities throughout the state formally adopted, including West Valley City.
“All recent market and real estate research suggest that 30 to 40 percent of people in our area want to live in mixed-use communities,” said Envision Utah’s Executive Director Alan Matheson. “By the year 2040, two-thirds of residents will continue to want traditional suburbs. However, half of that remaining one-third of new housing must be in mixed-use centers to meet that demand.”
Envision Utah keeps a close eye on cities and projects that show how the growth principles filter in by presenting awards for models of quality growth, creativity, community spirit and market savvy. West Valley City was among eight to receive the Governor’s Quality Growth Award for using the principles in land-use decisions. Original Article
